The story behind Bonne année
Second chapter of this confinement chronicle, one lonely New Year's Eve on December 31, 2020: in a moment of drifting thoughts, numerology weaves its work, distorts, and the numbers blur in the confusion of a time whose illusory linearity we can no longer grasp in lockdown... 21, 20, 19... 2019, 2021? What about 2020? The countdown to the end of this unfortunate year paradoxically pulls us back in time rather than forward into the new year. With our mental representation of time no longer reliable, what can we cling to, but the tangible, the material? It is on this piece of gypsum, enhanced by a 20x20 frame found on the street, set against a haptic-textured background and groundwork that this fleeting time is anchored, fixed, and frozen. A time that, sometimes stretching, sometimes racing, only finds meaning through conventional symbols: numbers."
