Born in France in 1958, Jean-Michel Correia now lives in Montreal, Canada. An artist in visual arts for nearly 40 years, he studied at the École supérieure des beaux-arts in Dijon and the École nationale d’architecture de Paris-la Villette.

Jean-Michel Correia’s distinctive approach is characterized by a constant visual exploration where geometry plays a crucial role. Drawing on architectural proportion systems, the painter develops a series of sensory devices based on a previously established grid. Different perspectives, color application, material, and texture creation are then executed on this grid. Jean-Michel Correia crafts his paper using the traditional 5-step manufacturing process: sourcing fibers, pulping, bleaching, sheet formation, and finishing. As art historian and critic Philippe Piguet aptly noted, Correia has continuously explored the various possibilities offered by the panels of his masterful module. Beyond the precision of his technique and eliminating any hint of arbitrariness, Correia has invented his own artistic methods.
